Grief is a universal experience…
but nobody is given a compass to help navigate. Writing our Grief Stories is a healing, heart opening exploration that guides us into a shared place of surprise and discovery. Reading our stories to each other in a safe, nurturing group creates a Sacred Circle. By writing our Grief Stories and sharing them, we are no longer alone.
When the person you love is gone, you truly begin a Hero’s Journey. You didn’t ask for your world to change, but you had no choice. You had to learn how to navigate it.
I know all about this journey. My husband Jim died unexpectedly in my arms when I was thirty-six years old. At first I didn’t think I would survive – but loving him, losing him and grieving him expanded my heart and my life in so many ways. I have always wanted to write this story and share the experience.
I wanted to help more people than I could in my therapy practice, so I joined a writing workshop and began to tell my story with the goal of one day writing a book. I learned to harness the power of grief and my unique experience into a series of compelling, relatable stories that two years later became my book You are Not Alone, A Heartfelt Guide for Grief, Healing, and Hope.
“….and I placed my grief in the mouth of language, the only thing that would grieve with me.”
— poet Lisell Mueller | When I am Asked
Writing not only continued my healing process, but has helped the many who have read my book, and who are reaching out to me wanting to share their stories of grief.
Now I invite you to join me and the woman who helped me write my story – writing workshop teacher Laura Lentz – in an intimate group of writers online to write your grief story.
“Learning to harness the power of grief
can turn the details of our grief experience
into compelling stories.”
— Debbie Augenthaler

If you are familiar with Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung, you know that every compelling story is a Hero’s Journey. How we cope, survive and transcend the pain brings gifts to our lives and our writing we might otherwise never discover.
You don’t have to be an experienced writer to receive the benefits of this healing workshop.
“I believe we are all connected.
No one should feel alone in their grief, their sorrow,
their hope, their healing, their transformation.”
— Debbie Augenthaler
